The Snow Bear Candy
Have you ever taken a small gesture for granted, only to realise later that it impacted your life in a big way? A story of generosity in scarcity, hidden provision, and the tiny miracles God places in our pockets.
Have you ever taken a small gesture for granted, only to realise later that it impacted your life in a big way?
Klaeh never imagined she would be in that kind of moment.
She was between jobs, sending applications everywhere, hoping for a breakthrough. Her long-term plan was to work abroad, but the requirements felt like a mountain — English exams, documents, fees, waiting. While studying at a review centre far from home, she struggled to make ends meet. Her parents were already carrying their own burdens, but thankfully, God provided so many good people around her. She stayed at her aunt and uncle's other unit in the city whilst away from her family.
Her aunt, uncle, and cousin helped in every way — a meal here, a little money there — but Klaeh felt too shy to accept more. She did not want to be a burden. Still, her aunt quietly slipped a single snow bear candy into her right pocket one morning. Just a tiny gesture. Almost nothing.
That day, Klaeh left for the review centre with only ₱20 left — money that needed to last three days. To save the jeepney fare, she walked 1.3 kilometres under the heat of the sun. On the way, she passed an older disabled woman begging on the roadside. Klaeh walked past her at first. She was hungry, tired, and painfully aware of how little she had.
But something tugged at her heart.
She turned back.
And she gave the woman everything she had — all ₱20 — believing the woman needed it more than she did.
The walk became harder. The heat pressed down. Hunger made her dizzy. She still had 1.2 kilometres to go to reach her uncle's flat, and her legs felt like they were giving out. She whispered a prayer, asking God for help because she truly had nothing left.
Instinctively, she reached into her pocket.
Her fingers touched the snow bear candy.
The one her aunt had slipped there without a word.
She ate it, and it gave her just enough strength to finish the walk. When she reached the flat, she collapsed into sleep, completely drained.
A knock woke her hours later.
Her aunt stood at the door with a week's supply of food.
In that moment, Klaeh realised something profound: God had already prepared the provision long before she knew she needed it. A tiny sweet. A hidden gesture. A quiet miracle.
She thought she had nothing left — but heaven knew she needed that tiny candy in her pocket.
Reflection Questions
- Are there "snow bear moments" in your life — tiny gestures you didn't notice until you needed them?

Closing Prayer
Father, Thank You for the quiet ways You provide — the small gestures, the hidden mercies, the unexpected strength that carries us when we feel empty. Teach us to recognise Your hand even in the simplest things. Help us trust Your timing, Your care, and Your ability to prepare what we need long before we realise we need it.
Give us hearts that are generous even in scarcity, and eyes that see Your goodness in every season. May we never overlook the tiny miracles You place in our pockets. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
